Duck Detective The Ghost of Glamping Review

Duck Detective : The Ghost of Glamping is one of the best examples that games don’t have to be long to be great. This is a game you can complete, with all achievements, in under two hours without much effort. It’s length feels right for the game, it packs in enough fun for what it’s offering and doesn’t push beyond that. In a catalog filled with games claiming the largest worlds and longest play time it’s nice to remember that games are made for fun and that fun comes in different sizes.

As the name suggest, Ghost of Glamping is a detective game about a duck. You move through the story collecting clues and piecing together the next part of the story. Clues come from people or objects in the environment. This isn’t the kind of game where you need a notebook to keep track. Click around, talk to people and slowly gather the bits you need. Along the way you’ll meet a cast of interesting little characters and one duck’s dry sense of humor.

The game’s simplicity is mirrored in the controls. You point and click on things and then occasionally fill out some short sentences based on what you’ve learned. You can review any conversations or clue gathering at any point so there’s very little need for back tracking. If you get stuck, there are hints to help you along the way.

It’s clear that this game has been built so that a wide audience can enjoy it. It’s probably not suitable for small kids but it would work well for someone who doesn’t often play many games. The guard rails are there to ensure you can’t really mess things up. There are a few choices you can make near the end but overall the story is linear. While that might be unappealing to some, it means that the game is free from frustration and regrets. It’s knows its audience and the experience it wants them to have and does that very well.

Overall, this is a good game. It’s short and to the point but is a well polished and enjoyable experience. It’s not really a game you replay in a hurry but that’s not the point. If you’re looking for an afternoon of fun, its one to pick up.
